We invite you to join us for any or all of our educational series on Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). These free events will offer information and resources for clinicians and mental health professionals. Participants can attend the series at the live site at the Anschutz Medical Campus or connect by webinar from your computer. Space is limited, so be sure to register. This series is a follow‐up to a webinar presented in March 2014 on Evaluating Adults for an AutismSpectrum Disorder.
June 16, 2014 – 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. An Introduction to Treating Adults with ASD and Anxiety ‐ For adults with ASD, anxiety can be extremely debilitating and can stand in their way of forging relationships and working in the community. In this talk, we will discuss how to modify cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to best support adults with ASD in developing coping skills
June 23, 2014 – 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. An Introduction to Treating Adults with ASD and Depression – Symptoms of depression often co‐occur with ASD and anxiety. Strategies to address these symptoms will be discussed.
June 30, 2014 – 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Building Social Skills and Supports with Adults with ASD ‐ Social deficits have been described as the most defining feature of autism and are noted to cause difficulties across the life span. Socially inappropriate behaviors place adults at risk for rejection, relationship difficulties, and employment problems. This talk will review strategies to support building positive social interaction skills in adults with ASD.
Speaker: Audrey Blakeley‐Smith, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. She is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in developmental disabilities, most specifically autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
