NeuroMovement For Children on the Autism Spectrum

NeuroMovement For Children on the Autism Spectrum

NeuroMovement For Children on the Autism Spectrum :  A 1-Day Workshop Taught by Anat Baniel:  Sunday, June 4th, 2017 in Westminster, CO:

Wake up and Rewire Your Child's Brain for Breakthrough Outcomes

For Parents, Caregivers, and Professionals

In this workshop, you will experience and learn theory and practice to use in your daily life for breakthrough outcomes for your child.  You will discover ways to reduce your child or client's stress, pain, and limitation, and increase everyone's well-being and joy as your child begins to improve in remarkable ways.

Anat Baniel is a best selling author, clinical psychologist, and dancer, who studied closely with Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais for over 15 years.  From 30 years of remarkable outcomes with thousands of children with special needs, and many on the autism spectrum, she developed her own scientifically based Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement for transforming the lives of children and their families.  She has trained hundreds of practitioners in this method.  Her teaching is easy to follow, inspiring, and life changing.

Building Cooperative Behaviors: A Free Introduction to Behavior Analysis

Building Cooperative Behaviors: A Free Introduction to Behavior Analysis

Jeff Kupfer, PhD, Board Certified Behavior Analyst

In order to build cooperative behaviors in others, we must learn to change our own behavior patterns and practices. This class provides a brief overview of selected evidence-based behavior principles based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Parents, Caregivers, Professionals, Educators/Teachers and Community Members will learn to use Cooperative Behavior Building methods for behavior change by:

  • Recognizing and understanding the five principles of behavior to enhance relationships

  • Distinguishing between proactive and reactive methods and how these two approaches result in diverse outcomes

  • Drawing upon Cooperative Behavior Building methods to increase positive behaviors and decrease challenging or problematic behaviors

Progresh is an innovative training center dedicated to ski, snowboard, skateboard, BMX and tumbling progression, in a safe and comfortable environment. Their mission is to provide a unique action sports experience, for all skill levels, to Colorado’s Front Range and beyond. This event is open to people of all ages who have ASD, as well as their siblings, friends, and family. We started this event with kids and teens in mind, but it's developed into an event for all ages and it's a great workout!

This is similar to the open gym format, however all participants need to arrive promptly for safety orientation and to sign waivers. Parents or guardians are required to remain at the facility. Progresh coaches will guide us as we explore all Progresh has to offer. This includes trampolines, airbags, tumbling, slacklining, and more. If you want to try the ski/ snowboard or skateboarding, please let us know ahead of time as they will need more staff to accommodate.

If you haven't given this activity a try because you feel you or your child needs a more gradual introduction to the facility and the rules, then please contact Julie Darrow at info@autismboulder.org to set up a 1:1 private session. This is not intended to be a free private lesson to improve skills. It is meant to facilitate a gradual introduction for someone who has trouble trying new things in a group setting.

Webinar Description:
The APHA Disability Section will be conducting their first webinar in this series!  The purpose of these webinars is to promote learning and to provide an opportunity for students and Disability Section members to share their research throughout the year!

Destiny Singleton, is a doctoral student in the School Psychology Program at the University of South Florida. Her primary interests are in pediatric school psychology, as well as behavioral trainings for parents. She am currently working with Dr. Jennifer Marshall and Dr. Christopher Vatland on a project that focuses on developing educational modules for parents with intellectual disabilities to increase their knowledge on health, safety, and maintaining a routine for their child. With this project they hope to see an increase in health outcomes for parents, as well as for their child. This group also hopes that agencies who may work with parents with intellectual disabilities are able to adapt their current modules so they can be more effective for this population of parents.
Yasmine Adem, MPH, RN, CHES, is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice with an emphasis in public health at the University of Colorado, Denver. Her doctoral project is addressing the issue of frequent emergency department use for primary care needs through improved community care coordination efforts. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nevada State College and her Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Nevada, Reno. She has worked in a variety of settings that span from acute care to public and community health. She currently works for the State of Nevada with the Department of Health and Human Services in the Aging and Disability Services Division.  Her role is a care coordinator with the Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver programs, where she provides case management and coordination of health services for the elderly and individuals with physical disabilities.
