Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP) Conference

Parents Encouraging Parents (PEP) Conference

Decades of research show that the participation of families in their child’s education, through specific coordinating between home and school, results in improved outcomes (Jeynes, 2012).   PEP Conferences are designed to promote family and school partnerships that are essential in supporting students with disabilities and their families in schools and the community.  PEP brings parents and professionals together by sharing ideas, discussing concerns, celebrating successes and obtaining information related to parenting, educating and partnering to support student learning.   PEP Conferences are offered at no cost to attendees.

Family caregiver training program begins Thursday, Oct. 12 in Longmont

Registration required, classes held Thursday afternoons

The “National Caregiver Training Program,” offered by the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, a division of Community Services, begins Thursday, Oct. 12 in Longmont.

The course for family caregivers of older adults helps them learn and practice the essential skills necessary to provide quality care for frail older loved ones living at home.

      What:       National Caregiver Training Program
      When:      Thursdays, Oct 12 – Nov 16, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Where:     Atria Longmont, 2310 9th Ave, Longmont

The “National Caregiver Training Program” is designed to help family caregivers feel more confident about the care they provide. The course is taught by a registered nurse and covers topics such as caring for someone on bed rest, providing personal care, using a wheelchair safely, managing medications, taking vital signs, controlling infection, preventing falls, using local resources, and more. Each caregiver receives the home reference guide, “Quick Tips for Caregivers.”

A family caregiver who took the course said, “I’m so glad to have taken this class.  I feel more capable as a caregiver now, and I’m going to recommend the course to other caregivers I know!”

The course is open to Boulder County residents providing local or long-distance care for a relative, partner or friend who is 60 or over, or of any age if the person has dementia. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Financial assistance for respite care (substitute elder care) during class periods is available.

Pre-registration is required. To register, or for more information, please call 303-678-6116 or email InfoCaregiver@bouldercounty.org.
